Pension increase exchange

Member is offered option of giving up future guaranteed increases in return for a higher initial pension with no future increases

It can only be applied to non-statutory increases, ie it cannot be offered if the scheme escalates benefits in payment in line with statutory requirements.

It is popular with DB schemes because it is expensive to run, especially with some unknowns such as future life expectancy
